What is a Cobalt RaQ
The Cobalt RaQ is a server designed for hosting Internet services. It can

At a single-rack unit high and with minimal power requirements (30 watts),

Why Use a Cobalt RaQ?
DEVELOPER BENEFITS:
Quick, Easy and Cost-effective Deployment of Applications
The RaQ 4 comes pre-configured with support for the world’s leading development environments,
giving customers everything they need to develop and deploy their Web applications. Unlike other
Web application servers that tightly link the development environment to the server, the RaQ 4 lets
you choose from a wide variety of development tools such as Microsoft FrontPage ® 2000 and Visual
InterDev ®, Macromedia ® Drumbeat™ or NetObjects ® Fusion.
OTHER BENEFITS:
Industry-Leading Ease of Use
Unique to the Cobalt RaQ is the integration of application and system functions into a unified easy-to-use
user interface (UI); if users don’t want to deal with Linux, they don’t have to. This valuable
software layer enables installation in 15 minutes, so you can respond quickly to new customers –
even while they are still on the phone. The browser-based UI shields the administrator from technical
complexities and minimizes the need for trained staff. It also enables customer-managed systems,
which reduces administration support costs.
High Reliability and Low Administration
Underpinning the RaQ’s economic success is the tight integration of open-source software and
focused hardware design, providing the high reliability and reduced support costs that result in fast
profitability for hosting services. The Cobalt RaQ4 includes built-in software tools and monitoring
agents that minimize the need for ongoing system management and support efforts, all of which
greatly reduce the appliance’s lifetime cost of ownership.
Important Note:
The Cobalt RaQ is designed to be administered totally via the web-based
admin interface. Webvisions will not support anything done outside of the
web-based admin interface on the Cobalt RaQ. Any modification of files
from a telnet or console shell (this includes, but it not limited to the
configuration files, software programs and data that are part of the
Cobalt's operating system) that results in improper or impaired function
of the product or system failure. This excludes modification of files by
employees of Cobalt Networks, Inc.
