Can I Use My Current Domain Name?

I reserved my domain name with another party last year but I wasn't ready to get a website yet. Can I use it with your webhosting packages? How does it work?

Yes you can use your domain name with our web hosting packages, as long as it is a top-level or country-level domain name. What you need to do is transfer your domain name to our nameservers so that we can set it up with any web hosting package that you require.

Webvisions will facilitate domain name transfers for all INTERNIC, SGNIC and MYNIC domain names. I.e. domain names ending with .com, .com.sg, .net.sg, .edu.sg, .org.sg, .net, or .org, .edu and .my . If you have another country-level domain name su ch as "alaskanpineapples.co.uk" or "alaskanpineapples.co.jp" you may contact the relevent NIC authorities within that country. There is a list of list of links to various country-level NIC authorities on this page.

I have an existing domain which I want to be hosted by your company as well. How do I go about doing that? It's being All you have to do is fill in the online order form on our website, select your package, and select "transfer domain" instead of "new domain". We will ask INTERNIC to transfer your domain to our nameservers, and the admin. and tech. contacts for your doma in name will be asked by Email by INTERNIC to approve the transfer. You have to approve the transfer and return the email.

How long does it take to register Domain Names and how can we optimise registrations?

I received my server configuration letter from Webvisions, but the domain name doesn't seem to be registered in the Internic database yet. How long does it take?

Webvisions submits the domain name registrations simultaneously with processing your server order. Domain name registrations will take anywhere from 1-7 days to complete.

INTERNIC: Internic is currently taking approximately 1 to 2 days to register new domain names. You will receive a message from Internic when the name is registered and it will be active the following Monday, Wednesday, or Friday when the root name servers are updated.

SGNIC: SGNIC currently takes about 3-5 days to register a domain name.

To Optimise Domain Name Registrations: Please fill in accurate address details, and fill in all relevent fields on the
Webvisions server order form. If you do not provide necessary informa tion such as phone numbers or postal codes, forms will be returned and your domain name registration will be delayed.

For parties registering ".sg" domain names, please make sure you fill in the correct Company Registration Number and a matching company name (i.e. If your company is registerd as "Alaskan Pineapples" do not fill in "Alaskan Pineapples (S)" on the order form). Incorrect details will cause your form to be returned, and your domain name reigstration will be further delayed.

Can I register Multiple Domains and use them on my virtual server with Webvisions?

I have quite a large web hosting package with Webvisions, and I need to do a few small websites for my friends who want their own domain names. Can I "share" my server package space with them?

This is quite possible. Each additional domain will cost S$35 to set up on our name server. Once this is done (and Internic has registered the domain) each domain will resolve to the same server. You can find out more about this feature offered by Webvi sions at the VirtualHosts FAQ.

What is a valid domain name?

" What is a valid domain name? "

The rules are 24 characters including the extension such as ".com", so actually the name has a limit of 20 characters (in fact, the domain name checker will only allow you to use 20 characters). Only 0-9 and a-z are valid characters and the dash "-".

As an added note, SGNIC will not accept or register domain names begininning with numerals, and will also not register any ".sg" domain names unless you provide a valid ROS or ROC number. FOr ".net.sg" domains, parties must produce a valid TAS Comm unications license.

For SGNIC's acceptable domain name registration policies, please visit
SGNIC's homepage (click on ".sg" domain names).

My current web hosting provider registered my domain name for me. How can I switchover to Webvisions in this case?

My current webhosting provider has got a domain name for me and I want to keep it. Is it possible for me to changeover to Webvisions and use your web hosting packages while keeping this domain name? Or do I have to register another domain name?

There are a number of provisions, but if you are registered as the owner of the domain name in question, then you should have no problems transferring your domain name to Webvisions.

Basically, Webvisions will help you transfer your domain name by asking the relevent NIC authorities to transfer the domain name in question to Webvisions' name servers. You may choose to do this on your own, in which case you may request Webvisions' nam eserver information so that you can talk to the relevent NIC yourself.

The domain name modification request will take anywhere from 1-5 days to complete.

SGNIC NOTE: For ".sg" domains, please note that SGNIC requires the registrant of the domain name to authorise the transfer of the domain to the new provider's nameservers on the company's official letterhead.

If you have further questions, please write to
support@webvisions.com.

I need a website but I'm not ready to get my own domain name yet. Can you help me?

I need webspace but I don't want to pay for a domain name. What are my options?

You may take up a canonical domain name with Webvisions, i.e. yourdomain.webvis.net. Currently, Webvisions only offers canonical domain names in this form.

Webvisions does not offer sub-directory hosting. I.e. webvisions.com/yourdomain.

There are no extra fees for using a canonical domain name from Webvisions. However, full setup fees and package fees are expected to be paid where relevent.
