The Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (NGNBN) has been launched in Singapore, and several appointed Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have been providing the ultra high-speed fibre broadband services in Singapore since last year. The project, which is under the Intelligent National 2015 (iN2015) masterplan by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), will see almost all Singapore homes and offices to get connected to the all-fibre ultra-high-speed broadband network by end of next year.
In the past couple of years, Webvisions has been planning for the network infrastructure in its two data center facilities in Singapore to anticipate the increased high-speed traffic from NGNBN users. This is to ensure that customers' website contents and e-mail services hosted in Webvisions' data center facilities will be delivered in high-speed network for NGNBN users to fully enjoy the high speed broadband services they have.
In addition to increasing the bandwidth capacity to local service providers such as SingTel Internet Exchange and Starhub Internet Exchange, Webvisions has also connected both its Science Park and Vista data center networks into Equinix Internet Exchange, where some of the ISPs providing NGNBN services are connected to. This allows our network to have better network diversity so that contents from our server farms in both data centers can be delivered to the home and office users through high-speed network using the shortest path possible.
Webvisions has also upgraded the core network equipments in Vista data center facilities earlier this year, to allow the core network to handle more traffic, in terms of both the speed and the number of packets it can deliver per second. The network upgrade allows Webvisions' Vista data center not only to be able to cater for high-speed traffic from NGNBN users, but also to better withstand DDOS attacks.
Webvisions' network infrastructure, for both Science Park and Vista data center facilities in Singapore, is ready for the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network.
