Standard Server Users (Web Plus, Lite, Biz, Adv., Pro, Premium) may use Web.Manager to configure Email aliases and autoresponders.

  • Creating Email Aliases Using Web.Manager

Use Web.Manager to manage email on your server. Web.Manager can be invoked directly from here. On launching Web.Manager, select "Email Management".

Select "Manage aliases" (fourth button from the top).

You will encounter a screen with these instructions.

    # the destination email address "webmaster@aol.com", type in:
    #
    # webmaster: webmaster@aol.com

  • To begin configuring your email aliases, scroll to the bottom of the instructional text message and press enter after "#Begin after this line:" to type in your commands. Make sure your line does not begin with a "#" sign.

    Email Aliases

    • Following the example line in the instructional text [ webmaster: webmaster@aol.com ], "webmaster" signifies the email alias you want to create, and "webmaster@aol.com" signifies the receipt address. The receipt address can be an existing pop account on your WebVisions server, or it can be any external address, e.g. webmaster@singnet.com.sg or webmaster@aol.com.

    Autoresponders

    • Following the example line in the instruction message above:
      [ sales: "|/respond /brochure.txt -subject Brochure -from sales@isp.com" ]
    • The following words in the example line are variable.
      1. "sales" indicates the email alias on your existing WEBVISIONS server.
      2. "/respond/brochure.txt" indicates the name of the directory your autoresponder text is placed.
      3. "Brochure" indicates the subject header of the email message to be sent out by the autoresponder.
      4. "sales@isp.com" indicates the email address in the "from" header of your autoresponder message.
      5. E.g. if you want everybody who sends mail to "bob@xxisp.com" to receive an autoresponder text file from "bob@xxisp.com" entitled "vacation.txt" your command line would be:
bob: "|/respond /vacation.txt -subject "On Vacation" -from bob@xxisp.com"
      6. You have to FTP your vacation message ("vacation.txt" in this example, but name it anything you want) into the main directory in your server.
      7. To keep a copy of the email being sent to you, forward a copy to yourself. e.g.
bob: "|/respond /vacation.txt -subject "On Vacation" -from bob@xxisp.com", bob

    Restart Mail Server
