Shared corporate hosting accounts have a Virtual Hosting Extension which allows hosting for multiple domains on the same plan, including canonical domains (xxxx.yourname.com). to each sub-directory on your Virtual Server. This service is not supported on Budget hosting plans.

For example, you can map customer.yourdomain.com, support.yourdomain.com to separate sub-directories on each virtual server. Each of these mappings can be fully controlled via Web.Manager.

You can also make use of this feature to map an additional domain (www.yoursecondomain.com) to each sub-directory. This is an affordable solution for hosting smaller second and any other additional web sites. Webvisions offers two types of Virtually Hosted Domains:

Script Based VirtualHosts
A script based VirtualHost is a low end entry-level web-only system.
A $35 setup fee applies for each domain that you wish to map. Script based VirtualHosts are very suitable and cost effective for small websites with one or two webpages. Script based VirtualHost however does not come with e-mail support. It also requires the use of relative URLs to reference other web pages.

There is no monthly web hosting charge for Script Based VirtualHosts.
Canonical domains are totally free with no charge. (e.g. sales.yourdomain.com)

Host Based VirtualHosts
Clients may also opt to have their domains mapped as a host based VirtualHost. This web hosting option provides full mail & web capability for an additional $5 monthly. Host based VirtualHosts come with a more advanced WWW server system that does away with some of the disadvantages in script based VirtualHosts.

Parked Service with Email
This service is similar to Host Based VirtualHost but maps the additional web site to the primary web site. Full mail capability for the second domain is available.

FAQs

  1. I currently own several Script Based VirtualHosts, how can I enjoy e-mail support for these VirtualHosts?

You need to upgrade them to Host Based VirtualHosts to enjoy e-mail support for these VirtualHosts. There is an upgrade fee of S$35 to upgrade from Script Based VirtualHost to a Host Based VirtualHost. You will also need to pay the additional $5 monthly.

  2. Script Based VirtualHosts require the use of relative urls to navigate to different web-pages. What does this mean?

This means that you can't access a specific file via a Script Based VirtualHost directly. e.g. http://www.virtualhost.com/xxxx.html
Instead, you can only do so by referencing it from your initial welcome page.

  3. What e-mail support is provided for a Host-Based VirtualHost?

Host-Based VirtualHosts come with unlimited e-mail aliases (or forwarding accounts). It also allows you to share your master (primary) server's POP server (email mail boxes). You can manage these via Web.Manager. If you run out of POP quotas for your master server, you may purchase additional pop accounts or mailboxes for $1 per account monthly.

  4. Can I create FTP accounts for my VirtualHosts?

Yes. You may create FTP accounts (assuming you have sufficient FTP quotas) for your VirtualHosts. Additional ftp accounts can be purchased through the online order form.

  5. Can I make use of HTPROTECT for my VirtualHosts? No, unfortunately, not.

  6. Can I assign disk space quotas for each FTP account I create?

Yes. With Web.Manager v4.0 onwards, you may assign disk quotas, file quotas as well as bandwidth limits for each ftp account you create.

  7. How can I order a VirtualHost?

You can do so via the on-line order form. You may select either types of VirtualHost under the Virtual Server Details (Server Option) section.

  8. Do VirtualHosts come with access logs?

Accesses to VirtualHosts are logged to your master server's access log files. Statistics are also collated under your master server's statistical analysis pages. Being collated together with your master virtual server's acess log files allows you to easily isolate these access.logs when you need to.

  9. Do VirtualHosts come with cgi-bins ?

Yes, you may create "cgi-bins" for both types of VirtualHosts. You may also make use of WebCGI to install cgi scripts into the directories of these VirtualHosts.

  10. Do VirtualHosts come with frontpage extensions ?

    No, they do not.

  11. Are there any limits to the number of VirtualHosts I can setup on my Webvisions virtual server?

No, we do not place any limits on the number of VirtualHosts you may setup. You are only limited to physical constraints like disk space, ftp quotas, pop account quotas etc.

  12. What is the difference between a VirtualHost and DNS Hosting

A VirtualHost is mapped to a sub-directory within your master or primary server. This allows you to have each VirtualHost serving its own "www" files as well as e-mail. DNS hosting maps the second domain name to the primary server itself. It does not come with e-mail. An example of how to use DNS hosting is to register and map yourdomain.com.sg to yourdomain.com

Note: A VirtualHost can act like DNS hosting but not vice versa. This is to say, you can map a VirtualHost to the same set of files as your primary server and enjoy e-mail and other features.

  13. Do I have to pay domain registratino fees for each domain I have with my VirtualHost ?

Yes, as long as its not a canonical domain (e.g. sales.webvisions.com or support.webvisions.com), you have to pay the domain registration fee.
